Advancing Digital Equity: VOLCANIC Project Hosts Dissemination Seminar in Morocco

Rabat & Benguerir, Morocco | May 13–15, 2025

To mark one and a half years of progress in fostering innovation and equity in digital education, the VOLCANIC Project held a high-level dissemination seminar in Morocco, hosted by Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). Held across UM6P campuses in Rabat and Benguerir, the three-day event convened stakeholders from academia, civil society, and public administration to share experiences and strategies for the future.

Day 1: Dissemination and Dialogue The seminar opened at UM6P’s Rabat campus with traditional Moroccan hospitality and a series of presentations outlining the project’s vision and achievements. Dr. Ali Bouabid (UM6P/ISE) introduced the VOLCANIC Project and the role of the Institute of Educational Sciences, emphasizing capacity-building for digital and computational education in K–12 settings. Mr. M’hamed Razougui from the Ministry of National Education discussed Morocco’s digitalization roadmap, while Mr. Aziz Mimoudi highlighted the project’s approach to AI and ethics in education. Ms. Aya Azaddou of the Tamkine Foundation presented the “Tamkine Equation” and called for a decade of educational transformation across Africa.

UM6P’s contributions over the first year included the development of three digital training courses for in-service teachers, pilot programs in nine middle schools, and a national gap analysis survey. Meanwhile, Tamkine launched the VOLCANIC Caravan, a mobile training initiative that brought hybrid education to underserved areas.

In the afternoon, participants visited Tamkine’s headquarters in Rabat, deepening collaboration and shared commitment to inclusive education.

Day 2 & 3: From Vision to Practice On the final two days, participants shifted focus to practical implementation. At UM6P Benguerir, teachers who completed VOLCANIC training shared insights on its real-world impact, praising its continuity and relevance. Highlights included a demonstration lesson using digital tools and a workshop led by expert Karina Ginoyan on critical engagement with educational technology.

The seminar concluded with a visit to Wad Al Makhazin Middle School in the Rhamna region. There, participants observed digital classrooms and met students who described how the project enriched their learning experiences.

The seminar highlighted VOLCANIC’s drive to advance inclusive and sustainable digital education through strong local and international collaboration.
